Trekking from Kalaw
There are many ways to get to Inle Lake from Kalaw, but the most popular way amongst tourists is to trek 68 km by foot with a guide.
There are a variety of tour companies who organise guides, places to stay, food and transporting your main luggage to your hostel/hotel at Inle Lake.
You also have a choice of trekking for 3 days with a 2 night stopover or trekking for 2 days with a 1 night stopover. Both have had great reviews and the groups that you travel in are pretty fabulous (if you're lucky)
The accommodation that you stay in is pretty basic, It’s like a large converted barn with about 14 mattresses made into beds. You are also provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner along the trek which is pretty awesome.
N.B: The trek is pretty touristy and you will make a number of stops at villages to buy additional water, so don’t worry if it is your first time doing a trek. The only thing to be wary of is the intense heat.
Inle is a great place to arrive to as you end your trek with a boat ride to the other side of the lake. The area itself is very pretty and you will be able to spot a variety of people fishing along the lake in a traditional fashion.
N.B: there is a 13,500 Kyat Inle tax that all tourists have to pay to enter the area
The highlight of being at Inle is booking a sunrise boat tour to see the sun rise over the lake, The atmosphere is incredibly peaceful and you will also get a chance to see the fisherman bring in their morning catch.
But there also biking routes around the lake which will allow you to explore more of the area and 5 day markets which are incredibly popular with the tourists.
