Often called the “melting pot” of cultures and a must visit destination.

Things to see and do:

Visit Marina Bay Sands for all of you retail need- there is even a manmade river inside the mall with boats!!

Book a stay at the Marina Bay Sand Hotel… to use the infinity pool

Walk around the Marina Bay and see the famous Merlion

Have a classic Singapore sling at Raffles Hotel whilst snacking on monkey nuts and throwing the shells onto the floor… It’s what they do!

Visit Gardens by the Bay and both domes  (Cloud Forest and Flower Done)

Visit Little India

Personal Experience:

I have always been a budget traveller and try to do things as wallet friendly as I can, but when it came to Singapore… I did things a little differently.

Luckily for me, my parents were adamant that I stayed at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in order to use the Infinity pool on the 57th floor as a treat to myself. It was safe to say that this was not in my budget and i booked a low budget hostel in the Little India area instead. But parents being parents decided that they wanted me to stay at the Marina Bay and paid for it… and who was I to argue with them?!

Checking into the hotel was incredible, I had bellboys trying to take my luggage (a big dirty Osprey backpack) up the elevator to my room. However, I couldn’t allow it, I’d managed to get this far without people carrying my backpack for me and I wasn’t going to give up on that now. So up the elevator I went and into my room.

The room itself was sublime, as soon as I put the keycard in the slot the curtains mechanically opened and the lights came on.

There was no time to waste, after spending the night sleeping at the airport, I pressed the close button on the curtains and jumped straight into bed for a mid morning snooze.

And after a quick shower and a change into my bikini, it was time for the Infinity pool.

Did I need to take anything with me? Nope, just my keycard as they provide towels, food and drinks up there! Talk about Service! (all charged to your keycard of course)

What did I do with the remainder of my time?

Well a lovely walk around the Marina and a quick stop to see the Merlion was in order before making visiting Raffles Hotel for a classic Singapore Sling to quench my thirst. Note that it is also customary to eat monkey nuts at the bar of this hotel and throw the shells on the floor (only at Raffles)… and you can read all about why at the bar!

Don’t forget to visit Gardens by the Bay and remember that the elevator to take you to the gardens is on level 6 from the elevator OUTSIDE of the hotel.

Is it worth visiting the Domes? Absolutely, they have some amazing plant life and have you ever seen a massive cloud forest inside a dome before?

And for a final treat? I was lucky enough to be there on the 9th of August which is National Day for Singapore, and where better to view the fireworks then from the Infinity pool on the 57th floor of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel!
